the Whole Spectrum

in addition to losing out on color variety, when one buys store eggs, one also loses out on size variety. when hens first begin laying, their eggs are small and more tear-drop shaped. more mature eggs are what one sees in the store. here is from a new layer, one of our "reliable reds," and one from "mrs. reject" that is HUGE and turned out to be a double-yolker. it really was as big as two eggs stuck together!
