i have been wanting a cat for months now, but have resigned to waiting until we get married and have our own house. a few weeks ago, however, ryan heard the most unexpected and unmistakable sound of cat from the courtyard next to his bedroom, which is surrounded by 12 foot high walls. after bandying about some names--icharus, phaeton, gideon--we decided on felix, since he had the happy fault to somehow tumble into the lap of luxury. he is still an illicit kitty, but only for another week, when ryan will move into our condo and finish some minor renovations.
my main concern was the nest of birds in the courtyard, but felix is not the brightest or nimblest of them all, and the very cute babies have safely flown the nest; a testament to st. francis. ryan has pictures of them, which i will try to post at some point.
here are a couple of generic picture of kansas, in the meantime. ruth and i went to visit TAC friends in wichita, which is the closest thing to a pattern language city that i have ever seen. every time i go to kansas, i become more enamoured with it. this weekend is houston, which will not be nearly so relaxing or beautiful, but will be with (almost) family, and so very good in its own way.

step A is over. French test, michigan in a month, then wedding. i've felt sort of like this for a while:
but i'm starting to recover, and soon i shall be much happier. :)
my mum and sister came to texas for my bridal shower; it was the first time mum has ever been able to surprise me, so she was excited about that, and i was excited to see them. it's a very exciting thing, to be preparing to set up one's very own little home. pretty much just everything is exciting. and then thesis this summer, but i'm not thinking about that right now.
